Description

Course Description:

In today's ever-changing environment, compliance with federal and state employment laws is one of the most challenging issues insurance agents face. It is imperative that all agents have the most accurate and up-to-date information available.  This two-hour session will thoroughly cover the most crucial topics relating to employment law.

Have these sensitive questions come up in your agency:

  • Is that independent contractor of yours truly an independent contractor in the eyes of the IRS? What are the ramifications if I am wrong?
  • Under what circumstances can you terminate someone that is protected by the Age Discrimination Act?
  • Do men and women have to be paid at the same rate for the same job title?
  • Do you have to pay overtime to any employees in an insurance agency and if so how do you calculate the correct overtime rates?

These questions will be answered by taking an in-depth look at the following laws:

-The Fair Labor Standards Act

-The Equal Pay Act

-Title VII of the Civil Rights Act

As well as several hot topics:

-Age Discrimination

-IRS Rules

-Determining Employee status (Exempt Employee, Contractor, etc.)

After attending this course, insurance agents will be fully equipped to act within accordance to the most current state and federal employment laws.
